What is PHP?

Script language, designed to generate dynamic WEB pages

The syntax is borrowed from C, Java and Perl with a couple of unique PHP specific supplements. The goal of the language is to allow web developer to quickly write dynamically generated pages.

What does acronym PHP stand for?

PHP acronym comes from the PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. This confuses many people, because the first word is an acronym. This type of acronym is called a recursive acronym.

PHP generally runs on WEB server, taking PHP code as an input, creating web pages as an output; but it can also be used for creating of scripts from a command line and applications for user interface on client side. PHP can be used on most web servers and on almost every operating system and platform without any monetary compensation. PHP Group provides complete source code for users who build, configure or update code for their own use.

What is the relationship between versions?

PHP / FI 2.0 is the early version that is no longer supported. PHP-3 is the successor to PHP / FI 2.0 and this version is much better. PHP 5 is the version of the current generation, which uses Zend Engine 2 which, among the other things, offers many additional functions OOPa.
