How to control it, increase and keep

There are bunch of articles on the PageRank but mainly they are based on thought that it doesn’t exist anymore or it’s not worth anymore or it’s something illogical, etc. Google PageRank exists certainly and it is one of the bases for the ranking of requested pages.

What is PageRank

Page Ranking is the probability that your site page will be found. The probability is defined from 0 to 1, and therefore, PageRank is defined from 0 to 10, so it could be easily displayed. 0,345 is complicated, it is easier to say 3.

PageRank in theory

If there’s only one page in the system, the probability that visitor will look at some page is 1, that page has PageRank 10.

If you have 10 pages that are indexed, each of them will automatically get ranking 1 i.e. 10% probability that someone will find it, type it. By adding links on certain pages we increase the probability that page will be found.

So, links change PageRank pages. At the same total probability of all page views does not change, therefore links transfer part of the PageRank to pages which they show on.

We come to the practice which tells us that pages with many inbound links, therefore those that are lots point on, have higher PageRank.

How to increase PageRank

So links do not increase PageRank, but if you look at a group of pages (your pages, your site) and you want to increase their PageRank, you can do that by increasing number of pages in your group. In general, by adding pages in system we reduce „dilute” ranking of all pages in the system, but we increase your group PageRank. Therefore new pages increase your group PageRank.


How to increase PageRank of the important pages


All pages on your site, in your group, are not equally important. Contact pages, „About us“, "Site map", "Impressum" pages surely does not contribute to selling of your products, in fact, they should not even be indexed. Of course we need those pages as information, but only those who describe your product, service should be indexed.


But even those pages have PageRank. On each page we often have a link to these „irrelevant” pages (for example, contact) and in this way we transfer, deduct relevant pages PageRank.

How to work with irrelevant links?

2005 Google introduced „nofollow“

A standard link format: <a href="http://dupor.com/">jump to dupor.com</a>

To ignore this link Google has introduced „nofollow“attribute. <a href="http://dupor.com/" rel="nofollow">jump to dupor.com</a>

This type of link will work in the browser and it will be there, but search engines will ignore it and won’t follow it. In this way PageRank of the home page will not be spread further.

Conclusion

Therefore with PageRank you can make something on the site itself, but you should not exaggerate. If you have 20 or so pages on your site, forget optimization, increase the number of the page first. If you have 200 pages, then check the internal links. External links that you can control focus on the relevant pages.
